Open Access Information and Policy
Open Access Overview
Advances in Science, Technology and Engineering Systems Journal (ASTESJ) is a fully open-access journal. All scholarly articles accepted for publication are made available online immediately after publication without subscription charges, pay-per-view charges, registration barriers, or embargo periods for readers.
ASTESJ does not operate as a hybrid journal. Published scholarly articles are not placed behind subscription access. Each published article is available through an individual article page and full-text access through the ASTESJ website.
Readers may access, read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, and reuse published ASTESJ articles in accordance with the article license and proper citation of the original publication.
License and Reuse Rights
Creative Commons License
Unless an individual article states otherwise, ASTESJ publishes article content under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, commonly referred to as CC BY-SA 4.0.
The license permits users to share and adapt published article content for lawful purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and ASTESJ, a link to the license is provided where practical, changes are indicated, and adapted material is distributed under the same or a compatible license where required by the license terms.
Reuse Conditions
Reuse of ASTESJ content must preserve the integrity of the scholarly record. Users must not present reused content in a misleading way, remove citation details, imply endorsement by ASTESJ or the authors, or alter data, images, figures, tables, or conclusions in a way that changes the meaning of the published work.
| Reuse activity | Policy position |
|---|---|
| Reading and downloading | Allowed without subscription, registration, or pay-per-view access. |
| Sharing article links or PDFs | Allowed with proper citation and article source details. |
| Educational and research use | Allowed when the original article and journal source are credited. |
| Reuse of figures or tables | Allowed under the article license unless third-party material has separate restrictions. |
| Adaptation or translation | Allowed when the reuse follows the license terms, credits the original article, and states that changes were made. |
Copyright and Author Rights
Copyright in each article remains with the authors or, where applicable, with the authors’ employer or institution. Authors grant ASTESJ the right to publish the accepted article as the version of record, maintain the article record, assign and display publication metadata, and make the article available through the ASTESJ website and related indexing, archiving, and discovery services.
Copyright terms for published article content are separate from copyright terms that may apply to the ASTESJ website design, journal logo, website layout, administrative pages, and non-article material.
Authors may share the published version of their article on personal websites, institutional repositories, funder repositories, subject repositories, academic profiles, and other lawful platforms, provided that the published article is cited correctly and linked to the official ASTESJ article page where possible.
Authors are responsible for confirming that submitted manuscripts do not contain copyrighted material that cannot be published under the article license. Permission must be obtained before publication where required.
Reader Access and Article Availability
ASTESJ published scholarly articles are available online to readers without registration, subscription, or pay-per-view payment. Article pages normally include bibliographic metadata, article title, author names, affiliations, abstract, keywords, citation details, and full-text access.
ASTESJ aims to support long-term discoverability through stable article pages, metadata, citation records, indexing preparation, search engine visibility, and digital archiving where available.
Author Fees, Waivers, and Editorial Independence
Article Processing Charges and Other Fees
ASTESJ uses an Article Processing Charge (APC) model to support open access publication. There is no submission fee, no charge for rejected manuscripts, and no color charge. Authors are billed only after editorial acceptance.
The base online publication fee is 800 USD for accepted research articles and review articles. The online publication fee covers accepted articles up to 20 pages. Additional pages are charged at 25 USD per page. Optional hard-copy charges, invoice or payment processing costs where applicable, refund conditions, withdrawal-related costs after production has begun, and discretionary post-publication correction charges are described on the Article Processing Charge page.
ASTESJ keeps the full fee schedule, payment instructions, refund rules, fee calculator, country-wise discounts, waiver options, voucher rules, and billing contact information on the Publication Fee page.
Waivers and Discounts
ASTESJ provides country-wise discounts according to the corresponding author’s primary affiliation and country or territory category. Authors who cannot pay the APC may request a waiver or additional discount before submission or as early as possible during editorial handling.
Waiver and discount requests are assessed case by case and may consider country, institution, funding status, author resources, and manuscript quality. Any approved waiver, discount, or voucher applies only after acceptance and does not influence editorial assessment.
Editorial Independence
Payment status, waiver requests, voucher eligibility, country category, institutional relationships, hard-copy requests, or billing matters do not influence editorial screening, reviewer selection, peer-review reports, editorial decisions, special issue handling, acceptance, rejection, correction, or retraction decisions.
Scientific evaluation and acceptance decisions are handled through the ASTESJ editorial and peer-review process. No primary research article is accepted without at least two independent external review reports.
Third-Party Material and Permissions
Authors must identify any third-party material included in a manuscript, including figures, tables, photographs, screenshots, maps, datasets, software output, survey instruments, or copyrighted text.
If third-party material is not covered by the article’s Creative Commons license, authors must obtain permission from the rights holder before publication and must include any required credit line or restriction statement.
Third-party material that is excluded from the article license must be clearly marked in the figure legend, table note, article text, supplementary file, or metadata where possible. The credit line should state the copyright holder, license, permission status, or reuse restriction.
Users who reuse ASTESJ articles must check whether any figure, table, image, dataset, or supplementary file contains a separate credit line or reuse restriction before republication or adaptation.
Text and Data Mining
ASTESJ permits text and data mining of published open-access article content when the activity follows the applicable Creative Commons license, respects website stability, and preserves proper citation and source attribution.
Automated access should not disrupt the ASTESJ website, bypass technical protections, collect restricted personal data, or misrepresent extracted content. Users should cite the original ASTESJ article when mined content, metadata, figures, tables, or results are reused.
Repositories, Preprints, and Sharing
Repository Deposit
Authors may deposit the published version of record in institutional repositories, funder repositories, subject repositories, personal webpages, and academic profile pages, provided that the official ASTESJ publication is cited and linked where possible.
Repository records should include the article title, author names, journal title, volume, issue, page range or article number where available, year of publication, DOI where available, license information, and link to the official ASTESJ article page.
Preprints and Sharing
ASTESJ permits authors to disclose preprints and related earlier versions during submission. Authors must cite and explain related preprints, conference versions, translated versions, or repository versions where relevant.
After publication, authors should update preprint or repository records with a citation and link to the final ASTESJ version of record.
Policy Updates and Corrections
ASTESJ may update this Open Access Information and Policy page to reflect changes in journal practice, licensing information, indexing requirements, funder expectations, or publication standards.
Corrections to article metadata, licensing statements, copyright notices, or reuse information may be made through the journal’s correction process where needed to protect the accuracy of the scholarly record.
